AVON — The city issued a boil alert after a water main pipe burst Wednesday morning on Detroit Road.
Anthony Lorenzo, the utilities superintendent, said the alert is in effect until further notice.
“We take samples to a lab and it takes 24 hours to get the results,” Lorenzo said. “If the tests show a positive for contaminants, we flush the line again and take another sample.”
The warning is in effect for residents on Detroit Road from the intersection of Nagel Road, east to the city limits and for all North Star Lane residents.
Lorenzo said the cause of the water line break could be the result of the low temperatures and the age of the pipe. The repairs were made, but a drinking water precaution was issued until the city can make sure no contaminants are in the water.
