Woman dies after being struck in hit-and-run (UPDATED)

SHEFFIELD TWP. — A Lorain woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Lorain Boulevard on Sunday night.

Sheffield Township Fire and the Ohio Highway Patrol arrived on scene about 9:20 p.m. after a caller reported that a woman had been struck by a vehicle.

Roslyn Arroyo, 49, was walking eastbound on North Ridge Road attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Lorain Boulevard. She was struck and killed by an unknown, northbound, white vehicle, according to a police report. After striking Arroyo, the vehicle continued northbound on Lorain Boulevard, the report said.

Elyria Township firefighters provided mutual aid. Elyria Township firefighter Russ Scarbrough said the woman was sent to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police report.

Ohio Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul March said the witness reported a white SUV hit the woman on the road and continued driving north toward Lorain. The patrol alerted Lorain police to be on the lookout for the vehicle, which the witness said has heavy front-end damage.

Authorities shut down the entrance of the northbound lane of Lorain Boulevard at North Ridge Road after the incident. Southbound traffic on Lorain Boulevard was not affected by the investigation.

The patrol is investigating the crash and was reconstructing the incident as of 10:20 p.m.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Ohio Highway Patrol Elyria post at (440) 365-5045.
