CARLISLE TWP. — Chapin Custom Molding, which manufactures plastics at its 80,000-square-foot facility on Oberlin-Elyria Road, is expanding its footprint and employment, its parent company announced.

Its number of employees is expected to double by mid- to late year, and the company signed a lease agreement for additional facilities near the company’s main plant, it announced this week.

A new 55,000-square-foot warehouse will provide increased storage and assembly space, the company said, while two loading docks can accommodate trucks up to 53 feet long.

“The new warehouse increases what we can offer to our customers in terms of warehousing, storage and shipments,” operations manager Brian Evertt said in the expansion announcement. “Customers can order products in advance, use it as an assembly point, and store finished parts for future shipments.”

Chapin Custom Molding is a division of Chapin International, which manufactures compressed air sprayers, turf and salt spreaders and is headquartered in Batavia, New York. Chapin patented the first U.S. pump sprayer in 1902, according to the company’s website.

The subsidiary here was created last year after Chapin International bought out Quality Blow Molding Inc., which made golf tees, bottles and other plastic goods, according to Chronicle-Telegram archives. The company paid $1.3 million for the property in July.

Chapin took over QBM’s facility and offered jobs to most of its employees. On Thursday, the company had nine openings listed on its “Careers” page online, some starting at $22 per hour up to $30 per hour.

Chapin International has two other facilities in New York and one in Michigan, plus three in China, according to the company.
