LORAIN — Another local official is joining the fray for the committee appointment to mayor.

Council President Joel Arredondo announced Wednesday his intention to seek the Lorain City Democratic Central Committee’s appointment.

“Upon further review with my family, friends and the encouragement of Mayor Chase Ritenauer, I am announcing my intention to seek the appointment to be the next Mayor of Lorain,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Arredondo made a run earlier this year at appointment to the County Board of Commissioners, following Ted Kalo’s appointment as Lorain’s Clerk of Courts. Arredondo is serving his fifth term as president of Lorain Council.

Ritenauer announced his resignation May 9, effective May 31. The City’s Central Committee has between five and 45 days after the vacancy occurs to fill the position.

A Democratic Central Committee meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. June 9 at Lorain Palace Theater to fill the vacancy.
