LORAIN — A Lorain man was arrested Wednesday morning and is facing multiple drug- and gun-related charges, according to a police report.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, an officer saw occupants in two vehicles acting suspiciously near First Federal Savings and Loan on Oberlin Avenue in ways that would suggest illegal drug activity, according to the report. After following one of the vehicles, an officer pulled over the driver at Tower Boulevard and Falbo Avenue.
The vehicle stopped and the driver, later identified as Raymond Velazquez Jr., 27, of East 42nd Street, exited the vehicle unsolicited. The officer approached the suspect with his weapon drawn and ordered him to halt.
Velazquez Jr. complied with the directions while the officer detained him and searched the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle also was detained and later released. The officer reportedly found a loaded semi-automatic 9 mm pistol in the driver’s-side door compartment.
The search also revealed another 9 mm magazine with 10 rounds and a clear plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana. The gun had a bullet in the chamber as well as another jammed in the barrel. A records search also revealed Velazquez Jr. had a suspended license.
Velazquez Jr. was charged with driving under a suspended license, carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, weapons under disability and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
