ELYRIA — Police raided two homes and arrested four people at Water’s Edge Apartments during a drug raid Wednesday evening.
Elyria police Lt. Jim Welsh said authorities arrived at apartment units O and S at 1312 East Ave., finding a “significant amount” of illegal drugs. The Elyria Police Special Response Team and the Elyria Police Narcotics Division conducted the raid with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Bruce Johnson, a resident in an unrelated part of the building, said he was in one of the homes targeted by the raid with several other people who were cleaning it out for a mutual friend. Johnson said as he was stepping out of the home, he noticed police coming up the stairs and put his hands on his head.
Johnson said they temporarily detained him.
Welsh said the people were questioned and later released after officers could confirm they had no direct connection to the two apartments. About 6 p.m., Welsh said police were still investigating the building as well as witnesses. He said police expected to issue a press release today.
“We’re still doing preliminary interviews, so we haven’t even started (fully) searching apartments at this point,” he said.
