ELYRIA — Two Elyria men were arrested and more than $2,000 in alleged drug money and 47 grams of suspected illegal drugs were seized Tuesday after a raid on a Lorain Boulevard hotel room.
Detectives from the Elyria Police Narcotics Unit and Investigative Division, along with the department’s Special Response Team, served a search warrant on Room 159 at Days Inn, 1825 Lorain Blvd., at 4 p.m., according to a police report.
Two men — Dominique Milton, 31, of the 300 block of Maple Street, and Mario Newson, 29, of the 600 block of South Abbe Road — were arrested on one count each of trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine, all fourth-degree felonies.
The raid was the result of an investigation into the sale of cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and fentanyl; items being sought on the warrant included illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia, weapons and cash or other proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs, Elyria police said in a report.
Seized from the room — mostly found by a detective “on the hotel room floor,” the report noted — were 8.6 grams of crack cocaine, 1.9 grams of heroin, one Suboxone pill, 1.2 grams of suspected marijuana and 36.3 grams of “an unknown blue substance,” according to the report.
The marijuana was found in Newson’s possession, police said. Also seized was a total of $2,060 in suspected illegal drug proceeds, three cell phones and a keycard for the room, the report stated.
Milton and Newson were taken to Lorain County Jail pending appearances in court. After their arraignments in Elyria Municipal Court, Milton and Newson were being held on $20,000 cash or surety bond each, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
Additional or amended charges are possible once the case is presented to a Lorain County grand jury.
