The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of someone posing as a sheriff’s deputy as part of a telephone scam.

According to a news release, a man saying he’s a deputy sheriff named Cannon is telling people they failed to appear for jury duty and then trying to get personal information including an address, date of birth and Social Security number. The phone call comes from (440) 363-6354.

The news release notes there is no Deputy Cannon with the department, and that the sheriff’s office doesn’t contact anyone by phone regarding warrants or failure to appear. Anyone with any concerns is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (440) 329-3710.
