Officers still are searching for a driver who escaped pursuit over the weekend in a car chase near Avon and North Ridgeville, according to a police report.

Avon police assisted North Ridgeville police in the chase about midnight Sunday, joining the pursuit near Mills and Center roads.

Avon police described the car as a 2008 gray or light blue Chevrolet Impala. Avon officers attempted to stop it with “stop sticks” (objects to deflate tires), but the driver ran through two of them and continued. Officers couldn’t identify the driver, but found the car’s license plate. Officers said the owner of the vehicle is not yet confirmed to be the driver that night.

Officers from both departments called off the search. If arrested, the driver is facing fleeing from a police officer and willful, wanton disregard of safety.

North Ridgeville police, who initiated the chase, did not respond to requests for comment or an explanation as to why the chase was initiated.
