ELYRIA — Grand jurors have handed up an indictment charging a 29-year-old Elyria man with the June 16 murder of a Lorain High School student following an altercation after a birthday party.

Tramaine White is charged with two counts of murder, both special felonies; two counts of felonious assault, both second-degree felonies; two counts of having weapons under disability, both third-degree felonies; and one count of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, also a third-degree felony, according to his indictment.

The murder and assault charges all carry firearms specifications, which could add additional, mandatory prison time to any sentence White could receive if convicted.

White was being held in Lorain County Jail as of 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

White was arrested June 16 by Lorain police after Kevin Price, a 16-year-old Lorain High School student, was shot and killed at 4:30 a.m. that day after a birthday party in the 300 block of Vine Avenue.

Police said several people got into an altercation and Price was shot. He died at the scene.

White was on federal probation at the time of the shooting, on supervised release after serving more than five years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to court records.

His prior felony record includes convictions in 2014 for trafficking in heroin, in 2013 for violating a protection order and domestic violence, in 2010 for possession of drugs, and in 2008 for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drugs, according to Lorain County Common Pleas Court records.

White also has convictions for obstructing official business, resisting arrest, domestic violence, possession of drug paraphernalia and has a history of possessing firearms, according to Lorain County court records and Chronicle-Telegram archives.
