Oberlin councilman Ronnie Rimbert is the latest to announce his interest in the Lorain County Commissioners seat vacated by Ted Kalo, now the Lorain Clerk of Courts.

Rimbert touts his 18 years of experience on Oberlin council, including two terms as council president and one term as vice president. In that time, he said, he has helped establish the Oberlin Caring Fund, developed a revenue sharing agreement with neighboring Pittsfield Township, successfully negotiated to keep Allen Memorial Hospital open and helped pass a levy in cooperation with Lorain County Metro Parks. Rimbert has also served on the Lorain County Democratic Party Central Committee for 15 years.

As commissioner, Rembert said, “My emphasis will be providing Lorain County residents with excellent services which result in a quality of life that can be described as exceptional.”

The field is already a crowded one to replace Kalo. Elyria Safety Service Director Mary Siwierka has submitted her name for consideration, as has former Sheffield Lake Mayor John Piskura. Additionally, Niki Smiley Wilson of LaGrange Township announced her candidacy Saturday.

Kalo was appointed Lorain Clerk of Courts on Jan. 13, and the Lorain County Democratic Party has to pick his replacement as commissioner within five to 45 days from the seat being vacated.
