Venett S. Smith (nee Swiger), 58, of Elyria, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland, following a long illness. She was born November 27, 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a Grafton/Elyria resident for most of her life.
Venett was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, formerly worked at the Elyria Wal-Mart, earned a degree in ornithology from Cornell University and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Randy; son, Benjamin (Chelsea) Smith; mother, Carol (George) Brinegar; stepparents, Leslie and Jim Nichols; sisters, Vivian (Chuck) Atkinson and Valerie Swiger; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Swiger and stepmother, Linda Swiger.
The family will receive friends Saturday January 6, 2018 from 10 A.M. until the time of a memorial service at 11 A.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Reverend Mr. Patrick Humphrey will officiate. Burial will be private.
