Dr. William E. Hess passed away very peacefully Thursday, January 11, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Cleveland on December 12, 1928 to Walter and Elizabeth Hess. He was the second of four children including; Walter, Elizabeth and Eleanor.
He spent his youth and school years in N.E. Ohio and served his country in the U.S. Army at Ft. Dietrich, Maryland as a biological scientist. Dr. Hess then spent several years in Miami and Key West, Florida as a Marine Biologist and Oceanographer before returning to Ohio. He opened the Hess Animal Clinic on Broad St. in Elyria, where he remained raising his family until his retirement.
Upon retirement, Dr. Hess again relocated to Clearwater, Florida to be near his children and grandchildren. In later life he found true love with his wife, Carol Jean Hoffman and enjoyed step-children and step-grandchildren. Dr. Hess was proud to be a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge and was an avid baseball enthusiast who spent his entire life as a player, coach and umpire.
Surviving are his daughter, Carole M. Hess; son, William E. Hess, Jr. (wife Kathleen) and three grandchildren, Chance William, Skyler Faye and Morgan Tyler.
A Service will be held at a future date at Community of Faith Church in Elyria.
