Brad R. Smith, 64, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, following a brief illness. He was born April 21, 1953 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.
Brad was a 1971 Elyria High School graduate and a 1982 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College. He was a self employed Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years, served in the United States Air Force, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and an active member of many local fraternal organizations. Brad was a enthusiastic Ohio Sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing softball.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joan "Indian" (nee Lanney); daughter, Amber (Dugan) Bentley; son, Kevin Smith; grandchildren, Kesari and Kalija; sister, Sue (Big Dick) Taylor and his best buddy, "Boy the Cat".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boog Smith and Doris DePue.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 26, 2018 from 2 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Mary's Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria (please meet at the church). The Reverend Charles Diedrick, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private.
