Ronald K. Schuster, 80, of Elyria, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1937, to the late John and Leah (Holtzman) Schuster. He was raised in Elyria.
Ron joined the U.S. Navy in 1954. He was a Gunners Mate on the U.S.S. Willis A. Lee DL-4 for four years. Ron was an avid trap shooter. He traveled throughout Ohio and across the country to participate in many shooting events. He passed his love of trap shooting to his son, Greg. They enjoyed shooting together, winning many trap shooting honors. At age 69, Ron achieved the honor of winning the 2007 Veteran Ohio State Trap Shooting Championship. He was a lifelong member of the ATA and NRA. He also enjoyed hunting.
Another joy in his life was his grandchildren. They were always excited to tell "Papa" about their activities and many sporting events. He always enjoyed sharing a meal of chicken and talking with them. Ron enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: fishing with his dad, John, brother-in-law, Jerry and nephew, little Jerry, the outdoors, his dog, Shadow, talking with his daughter, Brenda and visiting with his friends, Randy, Delsi, Sara, Billie, Norm, Bob, Bootsie and Stacie. A favorite pastime was playing cards with his friends, poker was his game.
He retired from the Lorain Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong U.A.W. member.
Ron is survived by his son, Gregory (Cara) Schuster of Ashland; daughter, Brenda (Scott) Shymske of Polk; grandchildren, Kaylee (Vincent) Tersigni of Medina, Cassie Schuster, Nikki Schuster and Triton Schuster of Ashland; sisters, Janie (Jerry) Bailey of Berlin Heights and Peggy (Donnie) Basinger of Elyria; nephews, Jerry, J.J., Mark, B.J., Bradley and Brian and niece, Janice.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie, Kaye Marie and Sandy.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M., Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave. The funeral service will follow at 2 P.M. with Pastor Eric Riesen officiating. He will be laid to rest in Nova Cemetery.
