Walter A. County, 96, of Avon Lake, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 29, 2018. He was born January 28, 1922 in Jersey City to parents William and Virginia (nee Narducci) County.
Walter was a proud Military Veteran that served four years in the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He was an air traffic controller with the Oberlin Center for 25 years and retired August 3, 1981. He was a hospital volunteer for 30 years and enjoyed leaded glass work, tennis, ballroom dancing and home projects.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Mary DiSalvo-Smith; children, Donald (Noralee) County, William (Janis) County, Claire (Ron) Kelly, Marian (Ray) Dale, John (Karin Bartimole), Carol (Martin) Plas, Christine County, Colleen (Paul) Krebsbach; sister, Jeanne Fritz; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Everett and daughter, Karen Fritz.
Friends may call Monday, December 3, 2018 from 2 to 5 P.M. at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake. Mass will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
