Beatrice L. Tanner "Bea" (nee Wheeler), 99, a resident of O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville for the past three years and a former resident of Elyria passed away following a short illness on Saturday, August 10, 2019. She was born January 9, 1920 in Rising Sun, Ohio.
Bea was an orphan for 10 years and was raised by her Uncle J and Aunt Viola Earl in Huron County. She moved to Norwalk in 1936 and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1939. She moved to Elyria in 1951. She and her husband, Richard operated several Lawson Stores in Elyria beginning in the early 60's. Bea retired in 1985 after 13 years of service with the Lorain County Human Services as a Child Support Investigator. She loved to read, car racing and was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
Mrs. Tanner is survived by her four children, Diane Gable of Cleveland, Steve Tanner (Kathy) of Elyria, Pamela Hall (Lawrence) of Vermilion and Richard Tanner of Elyria; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Tanner (1983); son, Thomas Tanner (2004); sisters, Kleta Pollick and Bernice Marks and parents, Smith A. Wheeler and Pearl Wheeler (nee Brant).
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at The Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. The Reverend Dalton Love will officiate. Inurnment at Brookdale Cemetery will be at a later date.
