Ellen M. Shubert

Ellen M. Shubert (nee Probst), 67, a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 26, 1952 in Barberton, Ohio. Ellen was raised in Barberton and the Akron area before moving to Amherst where she had made her home for the last fifteen years.

She was employed as a Substance Abuse Counselor at the Edwin Shaw Center, Quest Counseling and worked independently. Ellen was a 36 year member of Alcohol Anonymous. Her passion was supporting individuals suffering with addiction. Along with her husband Kurt, she enjoyed classic cars. She enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets. Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Kurt Shubert; her son, Robert Zornes; her daughters, Christine Zornes, Raquel "Rocky" Zornes, Melissa Zornes; her stepdaughter, Jennifer Meadows (Josh); her grandchildren, Robert, III, Michael, Andrew, Greyson, Bella, Joshuwa, Garrick, Makaya, Jordan and Miranda; her great-granddaughter, Kylie; her mother, Ann White (nee McCollum); her siblings, Mickey Probst, Robert Probst, Nancy Ewing, Eddie White, Don White, Trisha Helton and LeAnn Maning.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Val Probst; her father, Forrest Probst; her stepfather, Don White and a granddaughter, Hope.

Friends may call Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 8 p.m. at The Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Graveside services will be held privately by the family at Kendiegh Corners, Amherst Township.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ellen's name to Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities, 9772 Diagonal Rd., Mantua, Ohio 44255.
