John P. Arndt, 83, of North Ridgeville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Ames Family Hospice Center in Westlake, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 7, 1936 in Amherst.

John was a graduate of Brownhelm High School with the last class before the school closing. He continued his education with Ashland College now Ashland University where he earned his Bachelors of Music degree. He lived in Elyria for 48 years before moving to North Ridgeville where he resided for the last six years.

John started his teaching career with the Plymouth Shiloh School District. He went on to work as a Elementary and Junior High School music teacher with the Elyria City Schools for 35 years before retiring in 1993. He was employed as a security guard at Republic Steel for 17 years during his summers and worked at Sears Hardware for 15 years after his retirement from teaching. John was a member of the Church of the Open Door since 1962. He served as the church organist for five years, played the piano, taught Sunday School and was active with the Ambassador Class.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sharon Arndt (nee Shannahan).

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin John Arndt on January 14, 2017 and his parents, Jacob and Helen Arndt (nee Zilch).

Friends may call Friday, August 16, 2019 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 Noon at the Church of the Open Door, 43275 Telegraph Road, Elyria. The Reverend Bob Wickens, will officiate. Graveside services will take place privately by the family.
