BEREA — Tracy Sprinkle’s dream of playing for the hometown team came true.

It just didn’t last nearly as long as he had hoped.

Sprinkle, a defensive tackle and Elyria High graduate, was cut by the Browns on Friday.

His Cleveland career consisted of 23 snaps Thursday night in the 30-10 preseason win over Washington at FirstEnergy Stadium. Sprinkle, an Ohio State graduate, was credited with an assist on a tackle.

“Feels good to be playing in front of the home crowd,” he told The Chronicle-Telegram after the game.

The Browns are looking for a pass-rush threat from the interior of the line, and although Sprinkle considers that a strength, he struggled to show it consistently during his brief stay.

He signed Saturday after impressing the Browns in a workout. He participated in the Orange & Brown Scrimmage the day he signed and practiced twice more before the game.

The coaching staff had tweaked his technique and he thought he was improving against the run and the pass. But the uphill climb was too steep after missing more than a week of camp and joining a front four loaded with talent.

A league source told The Chronicle the Browns left open the door for a possible return.
